A Big Thank You

Avery Brewing has supported Flatirons Soap Works from our very beginnings.  True entrepreneurs, they gave us a chance, early on in our journey, to make soap for their taproom.  We are preparing a new order for them the first week of January.  For the first time in our history with them, they gave us a chance to create a soap from their premiere brew, The Reverend!

In addition to The Reverend, Hog Heaven will be arriving at Avery the first week of January.  Stop in and have a meal, a beer and take home a bar or two of soap!

Why Use Beer Soap?

You may think that beer soap is merely a gimmick, but soap makers have been making soap for many years – even before the huge popularity of Craft Beer.  There is a very sound reason to use beer soap.  Not only is beer soap is silky soft and produce thick beautiful lather, beer soap is so very good for your skin.

Our New Favorite!

Moon Over Colorado!  We finally figured out how to make a Colorado Soap!  Using a Colorado Original Brew, we created a soap in response to numerous requests.  Making a Cold Process Soap with a large embed is a somewhat complicated process. As with all cold process soaps, the end result is a gift from the “soap gods.”  We have made about 4 batches and cannot keep it on hand!  We had a large supply going into the Christmas season but sadly they sold out very quickly and we have 32 bars curing now.

Long time gone!

Its been half a year since I wrote last! So much has happened in that time out! From the Bacon and Beer fest we were selected to be the only soap vendor at The Great American Beer Fest.  We went into overdrive because the GABF is 65,000 attendees!  We had to make soap and make soap and make soap!  From there we slipped into autumn and on to Christmas! We have finished all of our Christmas Shows and now are closed until mid-January.

Fun with Beer Soap!

Here in Colorado, one of the most vital and innovative industries is the Craft Beer industry.  We at Flatirons Soap Works love to make beer soap because it is sooooo good for the skin and the process is challenging plus great fun.  Flatirons Soap Works has been selected to be one of the few vendors at May’s Bacon and Beer Classic in Denver.  We have teamed with Breckenridge Brewery to create a signature soap for the Classic.  We have combined Breckenridge’s Vanilla Porter with the bacon lard from the signature bacon and created a wondrously luxuriant bar of soap!  We also created a vegan version of this soap for those who don’t like bacon.  Although I can’t imagine who that would be!

To avoid confusion, we added a cute little pig to the top of the bar made with lard.

Beer Soap and More Beer Soap

new beer soap 1

Flatirons Soap Works makes the best beer soap.  This week we made more.

Using beer instead of water to make soap, beer will offer a light scent with all natural ingredients.  The beer in beer soap has some added health benefits. Beer soap has ingredients that moisturize, fight acne, repairs hair.  Beer is made up of hops, barley, malt and whatever herbs, fruits, spices and grains the brewer choose to include.  Hops contain polyphenols which are thought to account for its anti-bacterial and preservative effects. Hops also contain skin -softening amino acids and are known for their relaxing properties.  Beer soap has a much better lather than soaps made with water.

The taste of beer translates to a much lighter scent in the soap, so FSW adds a few fragrance oils or essential oils into the soap mix. For instance, if a chocolate stout is used for soap making, a touch of vanilla and or cocoa powder is added as a compliment to the chocolate undertones.

Why Use a Pre-Shave Oil?

Men's Shaving Set

FSW has developed a men’s kit for those men who do not have beards.  Everyone is aware of after shave but how many have heard of pre-shave oil?  FSW developed a super moisturizing pre-shave oil with jojoba oil, castor oil and vitamin E oil.

Using a pre-shave oil moisturizes the skin, softens whiskers, protects sensitive skin and best of all reduces razor burn.

Put a few drops of oil in your hand, gently rub hands together for a few seconds then massage oil into beard bristles for about 30 seconds.  Then let the oil work for another 30 seconds  before applying shaving lather.  Use this time to wash the oil from your hands.
